Tensions have escalated in the Majestique Rhythm County, in Handewadi residential community as residents voice strong opposition to the construction of unauthorized concrete speed breakers, allegedly laid by the builder without proper planning or consultation.

Over the past several days, an increasing number of residents have raised concerns over serious safety and health hazards resulting from the recently installed speed bumps. The community has now begun organized protests, demanding immediate removal of these structures and accountability from the developer.
A resident said that in a distance of 500 meters there are at least 20 speed breakers which are causing severe health risks to the residents. PMC as well as the developer must resolve the issue and provide relief to the residents and only install speed breakers as per the norm.

Residents claim that the poorly designed, non-standard speed breakers are already causing significant distress. Several key issues have been identified:

Sudden spinal shocks that can lead to partial paralysis or chronic back injuries.

Increased risk to medically vulnerable individuals, including those with piles, kidney stones, hernia, pregnant women, and senior citizens.

Two-wheelers frequently get impacted, raising the risk of accidents and rear-end collisions due to sudden application of brakes.

Bicycle-riding children facing the risk of falls and serious injuries.

School buses hitting the breakers forcefully, posing a direct threat to children on board.

Vehicle damage across the board, leading to unnecessary repair costs for residents.

Dust pollution and debris spillage caused by heavy goods vehicles impacting the breakers, worsening road conditions and hygiene.

Residents also revealed that multiple verbal and written warnings were shared with the builder prior to the construction, highlighting the potential risks involved. Meeting was also carried with Project Manager However, the work continued with what residents describe as “blatant disregard for health, safety, and basic planning principles.”

Speaking on the matter, a resident shared, “We are not against speed breakers. We understand the need for road safety. But a single, well-designed table-top speed breaker on the main stretch would have sufficed. What’s been constructed instead is dangerous and disrespectful to our concerns.”

The protestors have urged local authorities and municipal bodies to intervene, inspect the structures, and enforce compliance with road safety norms. There is growing pressure to hold the builder accountable for the potential legal and medical liabilities arising from this issue.

“This is no longer about infrastructure. It’s about our safety, our families, and our fundamental right to live in a well-planned, responsibly managed community,” said another resident during a peaceful demonstration at the society gates.

As the protest gains momentum, all eyes are now on the builder and local authorities to address the growing unrest and take corrective action before further harm is done.
When Pune Pulse raised the issue with PMC officials they informed that necessary action will be taken after visiting the spot.
