Pune: A major fault in MahaTransco’s 220kV Infosys to 220kV Pegasus extra high voltage underground transmission line disrupted power supply to key areas, including Hinjawadi’s MIDC and IT Parks, on Sunday afternoon. The fault occurred around 2:10 PM, affecting 91 high-voltage and nearly 12,000 low-voltage consumers.

According to officials, MahaTransco had earlier scheduled a power shutdown from 11 AM to 1 PM for routine maintenance and repair work. The outage was pre-announced in newspapers. However, while restoring the supply post-maintenance, the transmission line developed a significant fault, leading to widespread disruption.

Among the affected are 25 feeder lines supplying power to major establishments, including high-voltage consumers like Infosys and Nextra, and thousands of residential users in areas such as MIDC Hinjawadi, IT Parks, Raisoni Park, Dohler Company, and Wipro Circle.

MSEDCL (MahaVitaran) teams are working on a war footing to restore power through alternate routes. Officials reported that over 63MW of load is being rerouted to minimise the impact. Senior engineers and field teams have been deployed to manage the situation, but authorities have urged consumers to cooperate during this period.

Efforts are ongoing to restore supply to domestic users first, though rotational load-shedding may be implemented in areas where immediate restoration is not feasible.

A major fault has occurred in both extra high voltage underground transmission lines of MahaTransco, and it may take at least 3 to 4 days to repair and restore power supply. Until then, the electricity supply to 91 high and extra high voltage consumers—12,000 consumers including Nextra—will remain disrupted.

For domestic consumers affected by outages, MSEDCL (MahaVitaran) teams are working round-the-clock to restore supply through alternate arrangements. Senior engineers and agencies have been deployed in the field, and efforts are underway to restore power to most residential areas. However, in locations where immediate restoration is not possible, rotational load-shedding may be implemented as a last resort, senior officials from MahaVitaran and MahaTransco confirmed.

Societies in Bhoirwadi are majorly affected with many without power since yesterday morning. There are other societies such as Fusion, Melange, TinselTown, Koral, 32 Pine woods with over 3000 residents being affected due to the power cut.
