Pune Man Arrested For Making Fake 'Rape' Call To Police Helpline
Pune: A false emergency call about a rape incident in Warje Malwadi caused panic among police officers, only for them to discover that the report was completely fabricated by an inebriated caller. The man, identified as Srinivas Narayan Akole (42) from Ramnagar, Warje, was later arrested for misleading authorities and misusing the police helpline (112).
The incident occurred on March 9 around 2:45 PM, when the Warje Malwadi police station received a distress call about a rape incident. Senior Inspector Vishwajit Kaigade and Crime Inspector Nilesh Badakh, along with their team, rushed to the location immediately.
Upon arrival, they attempted to contact the complainant, Srinivas Akole, who admitted to making the call and claimed to be present at the scene. However, when officers met him in person, they found him heavily intoxicated and unable to provide any clear details. Further inquiries with local residents confirmed that no such incident had taken place.
Realizing that Akole had deliberately misled authorities, the police registered a case against him for providing false information and misusing emergency services.
Police Constable Amol Sootkar filed the complaint, and officials emphasized the seriousness of fake emergency calls, as they divert resources away from real emergencies. Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against anyone misusing emergency helplines, as such hoax calls could delay response times in genuine crisis situations.
