Pune Man Survives 8 Hours In Swollen Pavana River After Domestic Dispute
A 45-year-old man miraculously survived for eight hours in the swollen Pavana River in Pune on Saturday after jumping in during a domestic quarrel. The incident has left both the fire brigade and police astonished, as they were unable to explain his survival.
Abasaheb Keshav Pawar from Chinchwad leaped into the river around 11 am from Jadhav ghat in Walhekarwadi following a dispute with his wife over his drinking habits. His family quickly alerted the police, who in turn notified the Pimpri-Chinchwad fire brigade.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescue teams were informed about the man’s jump and the ongoing quarrel. The fire brigade, civic disaster management squad, and an NGO from Maval launched a search operation. PCMC fire officer Gautam Ingwale stated that they discovered a shirt hanging from a tree branch and searched the surrounding trees and bushes but could not locate him.
The river was swollen as the irrigation department was releasing 4,000 cusecs of water from the Pavana dam. Despite strong currents, Pawar managed to swim for a considerable distance. It is believed that he got trapped in the thick foliage and tall trees near the riverbank. Despite a desperate search in the area, he was not found.
The man’s family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival, which puzzled the rescue teams who could not determine how he managed to stay alive for so long in such conditions.
