Pune, April 11, 2025 — In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Pune City Police arrested a 26-year-old marketing graduate in possession of a premium variety of marijuana cultivated using hydroponic techniques. The seized contraband, weighing 30.5 grams, is estimated to be worth around ₹3 lakh in the illegal drug market, officials confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Arjun Totigar, was apprehended by the Anti-Narcotics Cell near a rickshaw stand on Baner Road during a routine patrol. Acting on a specific tip-off, officers conducted a search in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the discovery of the marijuana.

Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad of the Anti-Narcotics Cell stated, “The accused holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in sales and marketing, and is employed with a private firm in Pune. He has also enrolled for a postgraduate program. The recovered marijuana is a strain known as OG Kush, cultivated through hydroponics, which commands a significantly higher price compared to locally grown varieties.”

According to investigators, conventional locally-grown marijuana may fetch up to ₹1 lakh per kilogram on the black market depending on quality. In contrast, strains like OG Kush—grown through advanced hydroponic systems—can reach illicit values of up to ₹1 crore per kilogram.

Authorities have launched a wider probe into Totigar’s potential involvement in a larger supply and distribution network, and whether he acted alone or as part of an organized operation.

This arrest comes on the heels of another major bust earlier this week, when customs officials at Mumbai airport seized over 9.5 kilograms of suspected hydroponic weed from a passenger arriving from Bangkok. The contraband, hidden in a trolley bag, was estimated to be worth over ₹9.5 crore in the illegal drug trade.

The Pune police continue to intensify their crackdown on high-grade synthetic and hydroponic drug circulation in the city.
