Pune Metro Expansion: Bibvewadi and Balajinagar Underground Stations Get State Nod At ₹683 Crore
Pune, September 4, 2025: The Maharashtra government has sanctioned the construction of two new underground metro stations at Bibvewadi and Balajinagar on the Swargate–Katraj corridor. The total estimated cost for these additions is ₹683.11 crore.
Of this, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will contribute ₹227.42 crore, the state government will provide ₹116 crore, while the remaining ₹341.13 crore will be covered through loans.
Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district guardian minister Ajit Pawar stated that the decision would improve metro accessibility for residents of Bibvewadi and Dhankawadi, two of the most densely populated areas in the city.
Originally, the corridor plan included only four stations, leaving out heavily populated pockets such as Dhankawadi, Balajinagar, Bibvewadi, and Bharti Vidyapeeth. Following strong demands from local leaders, PMC submitted a revised proposal, which has now been approved by the state government.
Additionally, the government has given clearance to relocate the Katraj metro station by 471 meters from its earlier proposed site. It has also granted in-principle approval for loans to fund the Vanaz–Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi–Wagholi corridors, while agreeing to shoulder loan costs for the Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi corridor.
