As per a report by Financial Express, officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have confirmed that the construction work for the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route is progressing rapidly. However, the earlier deadline of March 2025 has been shifted to September 2025. While an official announcement regarding the launch date is still pending, speculations suggest that the metro line might be operational for public use by the end of September 2025.

Connectivity to Pune’s Major IT Hub

Metro Line 3 will link Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi IT Park, Pune’s largest office hub. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are closely monitoring the project to ensure timely completion.

Project Cost and Benefits

The fully elevated metro line will cover a distance of approximately 23.2 kilometers at an estimated cost of ₹7,420 crore.

Operator: Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) will manage the project for 35 years.

• Infrastructure: The line features 923 pillars, ensuring structural stability.

The PMRDA is also constructing a flyover along Ganeshkhind Road as part of this project. Once operational, the travel time between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi is expected to be reduced by 35–40 minutes. The metro line will feature 23 stations.
