Pune Metro News: Ramp Work Stalled for Two Years, Disrupting Traffic and Passenger Access

Pune Metro To Build A New Station At Balaji Nagar Near Bharati Vidyapeeth To Benefit Students And Commuters
Incomplete construction near PCMC Metro station hampers movement; residents demand urgent resolution.
Construction on the Metro ramp linking Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Metro station and Civil Court Metro station has remained at a standstill for nearly two years, despite the Metro line now reaching Swargate and experiencing daily passenger volumes exceeding 50,000. The incomplete ramp, along with a pedestrian bridge and staircase designed to improve station accessibility, has led to mounting inconvenience for commuters and traffic congestion in the area.
The Metro administration cites bureaucratic hurdles as the main reason for the delay. According to officials, the project is awaiting critical permissions from both the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the local traffic police. Without these approvals, construction has stalled, intensifying congestion around the station and sparking concerns about the project’s uncertain timeline.
Passenger numbers at PCMC station, which serves as the first Metro station in Pimpri-Chinchwad, continue to rise. However, unfinished access points, including incomplete ramps, lifts and escalators, make navigation to the station challenging. Nearby, partially erected pillars, a pedestrian bridge, and a staircase block clear pathways, forcing commuters to cross Morwadi Chowk or maneuver through traffic toward the PCMC building.
An official from the Metro administration expressed hope that construction would resume shortly, pending traffic police approval. “We are awaiting the necessary permission from the traffic police. Once granted, the remaining construction will proceed, ensuring smoother station access for passengers,” said the official.
Meanwhile, as work progresses on the Metro extension from PCMC to Nigdi, local residents express frustration over disrupted traffic and unsightly construction sites. The incomplete structures at key junctions, including the busy Morwadi Chowk, have led to traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience for residents, who urge the authorities to expedite the completion of these facilities.
Project costs for the extension are reportedly under review, but local citizens emphasize the need for prompt action. They are pressing for the immediate completion of the ramps and other structures to restore order and ease movement in this critical transit area.
