Several routes await central government approval as Pune Metro gears up to enhance the city’s public transport network.

The Pune Metro, after the success of Phase I, is set to expand its reach with seven proposed lines under Phase II. These expansions aim to provide efficient and sustainable public transportation to more areas across the city.

Key Updates on Pune Metro Phase II:

Balwadkar

Pending Approvals from Central Government:

• Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (1.2 km, two stations).

• Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (11.63 km, 11 stations).

• Khadakwasla to Swargate to Hadapsar to Kharadi (25.66 km, 22 stations).

• SNDT to Warje to Manikbagh (6.12 km, six stations).

Awaiting PMC Clearance:

• Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor (11.35 km, 10 stations).

• Hadapsar to Saswad (5.57 km, four stations).

Future Plans:

A detailed project report is being prepared for the Nigdi-Mukai Chowk-Wakad-Nashik Phata-Chakan route to explore additional expansion opportunities.

Current Developments:

The tendering process for the Swargate-Katraj line extension is in its final stage, with a contractor expected to be appointed soon.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil expressed satisfaction with the efficient operation of the metro’s current routes. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to securing approvals for Phase II and ensuring seamless operations for lakhs of commuters.

With these ambitious plans, Pune Metro is on track to redefine urban commuting by enhancing accessibility and reducing congestion in the city.
