With the Maharashtra government approving Phase 2 of Pune Metro, a technical consultant will be appointed to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.

The Maharashtra government has greenlit Phase 2 of the Pune Metro, which includes two major routes: a 25.8 km line from Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate and Hadapsar and a 6 km stretch from Nal Stop to Manik Baug via Warje. These two routes will cost Rs 8,131 crore and Rs 1,765 crore, respectively. To facilitate the efficient implementation of this mega project, a technical consultant will be appointed soon due to Pune Metro’s current shortage of technical staff.

Atul Gadgil, Director of Pune Metro, stated, “A general consultant with technical expertise is being brought in as Pune Metro lacks sufficient personnel to manage this large-scale project.” This comes after Phase 1, which has been completed and operational, faced several challenges that the team is now better equipped to handle in Phase 2.

The new consultant will oversee all aspects of the project, including quality control, progress monitoring, design and construction review, and safety inspections. The agency will also handle the training of Metro personnel and coordinate with the commissioner of railway safety to secure necessary approvals. Clearance from the Central Government will be essential for starting the project’s implementation and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be reviewed by various ministries before final approval.
