Pune Metro Services To Remain Closed On November 1, From 6 PM to 10 PM
Pune, October 4, 2024: The Pune Metro has requested a land parcel from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to establish a newly proposed metro station at Balaji Nagar. This station is part of the Swargate to Katraj extension of Pune Metro’s Line 1. Although Balaji Nagar was not part of the original plan, the station has now been proposed in response to local demand and growing commuter needs.

Last month, the Union Cabinet approved the underground extension from Swargate to Katraj, a critical expansion of the existing Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate metro line under Pune Metro Phase 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the project virtually on September 29, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Initially, the extension included only three stations, but we decided to add a fourth at Balaji Nagar due to its strategic location. The metro has identified roadside land near Bharati Vidyapeeth, and this station will be positioned between the Padmavati and Bharati Vidyapeeth stations.
He further explained that after securing the necessary land, Pune Metro will submit a formal proposal for the additional station to the Union Government, seeking official approval.
In August, Pune Metro had initially sought land for three stations—603.59 square meters at Market Yard, 1,170.51 square meters at Padmavati, and 1,061.75 square meters at Katraj. In September, the additional 450.27 square meters for the Balaji Nagar station was requested.
The proposal to introduce the Balaji Nagar station came after discussions among Pune Metro officials, local representatives, and the public, aiming to improve connectivity and cater to the growing population in the area.
