Pune: The northern extension of Pune Metro’s Phase-1, connecting PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) to Bhakti Shakti, is progressing rapidly. Operated by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro), Phase-1 of the Pune Metro was completed in September 2024 and received an overwhelming response from commuters. To further enhance connectivity, MahaMetro has undertaken the extension of Phase-1 at its northern (PCMC) and southern (Swargate) ends.

The proposed elevated northern corridor spans 4.519 km and is advancing with remarkable speed, thanks to the active cooperation from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the traffic police, along with the necessary clearances.

The corridor is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in this industrial and institutional hub, which houses defense establishments, government offices, and several colleges, leading to significant vehicular crowding. The metro promises to reduce commuting challenges and vehicular pollution in the area. Traffic management strategies are currently in place to ensure smooth progress of the metro construction.
