Pune | May 17, 2025 — A dashcam video capturing a dramatic accident on Pune’s bustling MG Road has gone viral, igniting a heated debate over reckless biking and road safety.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 10, when a speeding biker collided with a moped rider crossing the road. The footage shows the biker weaving rapidly through traffic before crashing into one of the two moped riders. The impact threw the biker off balance, sending him tumbling to the ground. As concerned onlookers rushed to help, the moped rider quietly fled the scene.

While some initially criticized the moped rider for fleeing, public opinion quickly shifted online in favour of the scooter rider. Social media users blamed the biker for excessive speed and dangerous lane-cutting on a narrow, one-way stretch of MG Road.

“These bikers think they’re on a race track. Just because it’s a one-way doesn’t mean you can zigzag through traffic like that,” one user commented.

Another user pointed out the scooter rider had almost completed crossing and likely didn’t have a clear view of the speeding biker approaching from behind.

“Yes, the moped rider fled, but maybe out of fear. If he had stayed, people might have attacked him, not knowing the full situation,” a user noted.

Many emphasized that the biker violated basic traffic rules and displayed poor lane discipline.

“This wasn’t a hit and run. This was an accident caused by reckless riding. The blame clearly lies with the biker,” another comment read.

The video has prompted calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits and better rider education, especially on congested city roads like MG Road.
