Pune, July 23: In a shocking incident on Tuesday morning, a woman riding a two-wheeler with her child had a narrow escape after a water tanker hit her bike on the stretch between Nyati Estate and Country Club in Undri. Both the woman and her child fell on the road, narrowly avoiding serious injury. The incident has once again raised questions about the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles and encroachments in the area.

Residents have repeatedly complained to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Police about the heavy traffic of tankers and construction vehicles plying recklessly on the narrow stretch. However, no concrete action has been taken to address the issue.

Adding to the traffic woes, the Corinthians Club junction is also witnessing severe congestion as the PMC undertakes the construction of an underpass and elevated road from Kad Nagar via Caelum High School to Dhruv School. Locals allege that there is no traffic patrolling in the area to regulate the flow of heavy vehicles, posing a constant threat to commuters, especially pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.

“The authorities are aware of the issue. Encroachments have narrowed the road further, and yet water tankers and construction trucks are allowed to zip past recklessly. Are they waiting for a tragedy to act?” questioned a resident.

Citizens are demanding immediate steps from PMC and traffic police to curb the movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours, remove encroachments and deploy a patrolling team to manage the chaotic traffic situation.

Will PMC and the traffic police finally wake up and ensure the safety of commuters before it’s too late?
