Pune, August 12, 2025 – Ownership or name changes on properties occur for various reasons such as purchase-sale, gift deeds, death, inheritance, etc. Similarly, electricity consumers also need to update the name on their electricity bill. Now, this “name change” process can be done entirely online from home, eliminating the need to visit MSEDCL offices. The facility is available 24/7 on MSEDCL’s mobile app and WSS portal.

Most of MSEDCL’s customer services are available through its mobile app and website. Consumers can create their own username ID and avail of online services from home. Services include applying for a new connection, viewing and paying electricity bills, lodging and tracking complaints, submitting meter readings, changing electricity load, viewing old bill history, using a bill calculator, and now, changing the name on the electricity bill. These services are available via the mobile app and at https://wss.mahadiscom.in/wss/wss.

MSEDCL serves over three crore customers across the state, with several lakh new customers added every year. Due to property transfers through purchase-sale, gift deeds, death, inheritance, or family separation, property ownership changes occur frequently. When property ownership changes, it is also necessary to update the electricity bill’s name, similar to other departments. Previously, this required visiting the office, filling out Form ‘U’ along with various supporting documents. Now, Form ‘U’ is available on the mobile app. To complete the process, customers can simply upload proof of property name change along with a photograph of ‘Form X’ for transferring the security deposit to the new customer’s name. The updated name will appear on the next electricity bill.

How to Register on the App:
After installing the MSEDCL app, select your preferred language. To register, click “Don’t have an account? Sign Up.” Then enter your 12-digit consumer number, mobile number, email, login ID, and password. Once registered, log in and accept all permissions for smooth app functioning.

How to Change the Name:
In the app’s left-hand menu, go to “Services.” Select “Name Change Request.” Once you choose your consumer number, Form ‘U’ will appear. Fill in the details of the current or new owner, select the reason for the change, agree to the terms, and proceed to upload the property proof and photograph of Form ‘X.’ Upon uploading, you will receive a registration number.
