The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will soon begin constructing a modern bus station in Shivaji Nagar. The station will feature state-of-the-art facilities and align with the latest design concepts.

An MoU between MSRTC and Mahametro will be signed shortly to develop the site into a multi-modal transport hub. The project will be executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, considering the area’s traffic flow.

The development of the transport center has faced delays for over three years. Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole had raised the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. A review meeting on Monday, attended by Pawar, Mahametro MD Shravan Hardikar, and senior MSRTC officials, addressed these delays.

The delay stemmed from complications during the construction of the underground Mahametro station at Shivaji Nagar. This had temporarily relocated the ST bus station to Wakdewadi. During the Mahavikas Aghadi government’s tenure, discrepancies between Mahametro and MSRTC plans stalled the project.

After the meeting, Pawar discussed the matter with Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. Instructions were issued for the immediate signing of the MoU, paving the way for the tender process to begin.

The new multi-modal center will enhance passenger facilities, including air-conditioned waiting rooms, meeting spaces, and shopping centers. It will improve connectivity between various transport modes and cater to growing commuter demands in Shivaji Nagar.

The project aims to streamline travel and offer commuters a superior experience while addressing the long-standing need for a modern transport hub.
