Pune, July 12, 2025: A video of passengers confronting an E-Shivneri bus driver for allegedly driving under the influence went viral on Friday, sparking outrage and swift action from authorities.
Arun Siya, divisional controller of MSRTC’s Pune division, confirmed the incident and said the driver, who was hired by a private contractor, has been dismissed from service. “The Thane-bound bus departed Swargate at 5:30 pm with nearly 30 passengers,” Siya stated.
The situation escalated near Vanaz around 6:15 pm when the driver reportedly grazed a two-wheeler. Though the rider escaped unhurt, he blocked the bus and accused the driver of being intoxicated. Passengers also confronted the driver and alerted a traffic policeman.
The driver was taken to a hospital for medical examination, while MSRTC officials remained on site to assist. However, the Konthud police reported no formal complaint had been received till late Friday night.
