Pune Municipal Commissioner Inspects Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Orders Speedy Implementation Of Master Plan
Pune, September 23, 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram visited the Late Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park on Monday, September 22, 2025, to review its current facilities and development plans.
During the inspection, he assessed the living conditions of wild animals, their healthcare, daily management, tourist amenities, and the overall visitor experience. He also reviewed the existing and proposed animal collection plan and the zoo’s comprehensive development master plan.
The Commissioner instructed officials to expedite the implementation of planned projects to increase tourist footfall and boost revenue. He directed the early completion of the modern snake park project and immediate commencement of the “Bird Park” project. He emphasized that approved wildlife species should be systematically introduced, veterinary healthcare must be of the highest quality, and food security and pest control for animals should be prioritized.
To enhance visitor convenience, he asked for the proposed “Entrance Plaza” at the main gate to be completed at the earliest, along with strengthening security measures and expanding parking facilities for tourists’ vehicles. He also highlighted the need to upgrade existing amenities, especially those for children, to international standards.
The Commissioner further stressed that a time-bound integrated development plan should be prepared and implemented within the next four years. The goal is to transform Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park into a world-class facility for Pune residents and tourists.
The inspection was attended by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Garden Department) Dr. Ashok D. Ghorpade, Zoo Director Dr. Rajkumar Jadhav, Executive Engineer Rahul Salunkhe, Deputy Director Dr. Suchitra Suryawanshi-Patil, Deputy Engineer Amol Rudrake, and representatives from HKS Designer and Consultant International Company.
