In a recent incident in Pune, India, two municipal employees from the tax collection department were apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly soliciting a bribe of ₹25,000 from senior citizens to expedite the assessment process for new homes.

The incident unfolded at the regional office in Aundh-Baner in April 2024, where an application was submitted. Subsequently, the bribe request was made during a complaint resolution process, prompting the complainant to inform the local representative. Upon learning of the situation, he instructed the complainant to offer the bribe to another person

Upon accepting the bribe, both the employees were reported to the Anti-Corruption Bureau. They now face charges under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated legal proceedings against the accused under the aforementioned section. If found guilty, they could face severe penalties under the law.
