Pune Municipal Corporation Issues Advisory Against Tree Cutting During Vijayadashami
Pune, September 30, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Tree Authority has issued a public advisory urging citizens not to cut or damage trees during the Vijayadashami (Dussehra) festival.
The notice highlights that the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Protection and Conservation Act, 1975, along with its amendments and rules, governs tree conservation in the city.
According to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Protection and Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2021, any act of cutting, burning, or causing harm to trees without proper permission is considered a punishable offense. Violators can face a fine of up to ₹1 lakh.
The PMC specifically warned against cutting mango, neem, acacia, shami, or any other trees during the festival. Citizens are urged to report any unauthorized tree cutting or encroachment immediately to the local PMC Assistant Commissioner, Tree Officer, or Tree Authority Office.
