Pune Municipal Corporation's Health Institutions Shine In State-Level Kayakalp Awards, Bag Rs 22 Lakh In Prizes

The Integrated Health and Family Welfare Society under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earned state-level recognition for the exemplary implementation of the Kayakalp Programme under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). The initiative, which focuses on hygiene, infection control, and service quality at urban health centers, was rolled out across all PMC-run health institutions during the financial year 2024–25.
Following internal assessments and state-level evaluations, 17 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) and 11 Maternity Homes (UCHCs) under PMC have been awarded a total of ₹22 lakh in prize money by the Government of Maharashtra for outstanding performance.
The late Pruthak Barate UPHC secured the first prize of ₹2 lakh. The late Baburao Genva Shewale UPHC won the runner-up award with ₹1.5 lakh, and the late Vilasrao Tambe UPHC and Dr. Kotnis Health Centre received ₹50,000 each as second runners-up. A dozen more clinics, including Baner Smart Clinic, Late Kalawatibai Mawale Clinic, and others, were awarded commendation prizes of ₹50,000 each.
On the maternity care front, 11 Urban Community Health Centres (UCHCs), including Kamala Nehru Maternity Home, Rajmata Jijau Maternity Home, and Dr. Dalvi Hospital, were each awarded ₹1 lakh in recognition of their consistent quality care.
This achievement was made possible through the leadership of Administrator and Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj, and the health department team led by Dr. Nina Dorade, Dr. Kalpana Balivant, Dr. Manisha Naik, and Dr. Lata Trimbake, among others. The tireless efforts of staff from the NUHM office and the respective health institutions contributed significantly to this success.
The Kayakalp programme evaluates health facilities on parameters such as cleanliness, patient safety, hygiene standards, and infection control. These awards reflect PMC’s strong commitment to delivering high-quality public healthcare and promoting well-managed, patient-friendly health facilities across the city.
