Pune Municipal Corporation’s Mission 15: No More Road Digging On These Routes

Pune Municipal Corporation Launches ‘Rangyatra’ App For Online Booking Of Cultural Centers
In an effort to improve traffic flow in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed 90% of road repairs under ‘Mission 15’. The PMC has now declared that no further road digging will be permitted on these newly repaired roads.
Many roads in Pune have been in poor condition, causing difficulties for commuters. Damaged roads slowed down traffic, and uneven surfaces created safety hazards. To address this issue, the PMC selected 15 of the city’s most frequently used roads for repairs as part of the first phase of ‘Mission 15.’ These roads have undergone resurfacing and asphalt work, and the project is now in its final stage.
Major Repairs and Roadwork Completed
To showcase the progress of the project, the PMC’s road department conducted an inspection tour of the repaired roads. Key figures from the department reported that:
- 15 major roads have been repaired within a month.
- 92 kilometers of road have been resurfaced, covering 60,772 square meters.
- 11,143 metric tons of asphalt have been used for repairs.
- Thermoplastic paint was applied at key intersections for better visibility.
According to Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of the Road Department, the completion of these repairs will reduce travel time and improve road conditions for motorists.
Government Action and Public Demand
The project was launched after public pressure and political intervention.
- Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, Minister Chandrakant Patil, and BJP MLAs expressed dissatisfaction over the city’s deteriorating road conditions in a meeting with the PMC Commissioner.
- Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar also instructed authorities to take immediate action.
Following these discussions, the PMC launched ‘Mission 15’ and completed the first phase of road repairs within a month.
Key Features of the Roadwork
- Resurfacing and leveling of roads.
- Sidewalk painting and repair.
- Drainage chamber covers were adjusted to road level to prevent accidents.
- 509 drainage chambers were brought to uniform height to avoid potholes and improve safety.
Traffic Flow Optimization
To further improve traffic conditions, the Road Department and Traffic Police jointly reviewed major routes and removed unnecessary speed breakers. This helped streamline traffic before completing the asphalt work on these 15 roads.
Future Plans: No More Digging on These Roads
- The PMC has selected 32 major roads that experience heavy traffic daily.
- The first phase (15 roads) is now complete, while the second phase (17 roads) is planned.
- No digging will be permitted on roads repaired under Mission 15.
