Pune" Nagar Road Citizens’ Forum Submits 16-Point Plan to Decongest Pune’s 22 Traffic Hotspots, 32 Key Roads
Pune, October 2, 2025: The Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum has submitted a detailed 16-point action plan to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Traffic Police, urging them to address immediate issues before implementing long-term congestion strategies.
The forum’s convenor, Qaneez Sukhrani, in a letter to PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Patil, stressed that while plans to ease gridlock at 22 identified hotspots and 32 major roads are welcome, “low-hanging fruits” must be resolved first to ensure success.
Key recommendations include: halting excessive construction that fuels migration and vehicle growth, prioritising PMPML’s public transport network, converting amenity spaces into multi-modal parking lots, reviving dead parking areas like Bal Gandharva, and enforcing the 2016 Parking Policy across all arterial roads.
The letter also calls for strict removal of illegal hawkers, food stalls, and encroachments as per High Court orders, relocation of MSEDCL poles and DP boxes blocking footpaths, and ensuring safe pedestrian pathways. Citizens have also demanded demolition of unused BRTS corridors, proper placement of bus stops away from junctions, and a review of the No-Signal/Only U-Turn traffic plan on Nagar Road.
While acknowledging political interference could arise ahead of local elections, the forum has appealed to both PMC and police to seek the support of the Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister to implement these measures decisively.
The forum emphasised that Pune has already exceeded its urban carrying capacity, and only decisive action will prevent further infrastructure breakdown and worsening quality of life.
