Pune: Negligence Claims Senior Citizen's Life On Nagras Road, Aundh Residents Demand Action Over Civic Issues
Pune, July 31, 2025 — The tragic death of an elderly citizen on Nagras Road in Aundh has sparked outrage among local residents and traders, who blame the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for its continued negligence in maintaining road infrastructure.
A senior citizen residing in the Pinak Gangotri area of Aundh, lost his life after falling victim to a road accident caused by a pothole near Rahul Restaurant. Local witnesses say the accident was entirely avoidable and a result of poor road conditions and lack of civic responsibility.
In response, members of the Aundh Vyapari Association and residents will gather today at 5 PM at Rahul Restaurant, Bhale Chowk, to pay homage and raise a collective voice against civic apathy.
Nana Gopinath Valke, president of the traders’ association, appealed to all local citizens and shopkeepers to unite in demanding better road safety.
Ganesh Kalapure, a social activist from Aundh, told Pune Pulse, “We’ve had multiple meetings with PMC and the police department. Despite repeated requests to install speed breakers, repair potholes, and increase police patrolling, there has been no concrete action.”
Adding to the concerns, resident Ravindra Oswal said, “In the name of Smart City, authorities have created a disaster zone. Footpaths have been widened, but there’s no space left for vehicles. Over 70 housing societies use this road daily, and reckless driving continues unchecked.”
The residents are now calling for urgent intervention, demanding not only accountability for Kale’s death but also long-term infrastructural corrections on Nagras Road. The tragic incident has served as a grim reminder of how administrative failures can cost innocent lives.
