Pune: A new coaching depot is set to be constructed at Alandi station on the Pune-Satara railway line, with an estimated investment of ₹90 crore. This facility will serve as the second such depot in the Pune division, significantly enhancing maintenance and repair capacity for railway coaches.

The upcoming depot will handle the upkeep of nearly 100 coaches daily, including those of the Vande Bharat Express and New Modified Goods (NMG) coaches. At present, the Ghorpadi Coaching Maintenance Complex near Pune station manages around 300 coaches every day.

According to the Pune railway administration, the current maintenance capacity in Pune is limited to 23 coaches. The addition of the new depot is expected to increase this number, benefiting passengers by improving service efficiency and reducing maintenance delays.

The establishment of this depot aims to reduce the burden on the Ghorpadi facility and streamline railway operations. Authorities have confirmed that the proposal for the depot is currently awaiting approval.

The project will include three 600-meter-long pit lines, two stabling lines, and a sick line at the Alandi depot. The pit lines will be designated for coach repairs, while the stabling lines will be used for parking trains. Coaches with technical issues will be moved to the sick line, where maintenance staff will carry out necessary repairs. These arrangements will help ensure smooth railway operations by keeping the loop line at Alandi station free for rail traffic.
