To tackle heavy traffic congestion on Paud Road, a new proposal has been made to build a flyover between the Kothrud garbage depot and Bhusari Colony.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are working together on the plan. Since a Metro line is also planned on this stretch from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk the flyover will likely be a double-decker structure. The Metro viaduct will be on the top deck and the vehicle flyover below.

Maha Metro has submitted the flyover proposal to PMC. Civic officials will now study its feasibility, ramp landings, and other technical aspects.

The proposed cost of the flyover is around Rs 80 crore. If approved and built, the flyover is expected to reduce travel time by helping commuters avoid stops at four major chowks.

Regular commuters on this route have welcomed the move. A frequent traveller on the stretch said traffic on Paud Road has increased sharply in recent years. He noted that most vehicles from Pirangut, Mulshi Road, and Mumbai bypass enter Pune through this stretch.

Residents have also raised concerns. A resident of Paud Road pointed out that the Metro extension from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk has seen no progress for four years. He urged authorities to fix clear timelines for both projects.

Sources from the state government said the Metro extension plan is in the final stages of approval and a nod from the Centre is expected soon. Once approved, PMC and Maha Metro will finalize the flyover plans in parallel.

Commuters have also demanded proper traffic arrangements at both ends of the flyover to avoid bottlenecks.
