Pune: New, Modern Building for Balbharati to Come Up Soon
Mumbai, July 11, 2025: A decision will soon be taken to reconstruct the main building of ‘Balbharati’, as the existing structure has become extremely weak, informed Minister of State for Education Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar in the Legislative Council.
During the session, member Dnyaneshwar Mhatre raised a question under Lakshevedhi regarding the construction of a new building for the Balbharati office in Pune, as the current building is old. Responding to the query, Dr. Bhoyar provided detailed information. Members Jagannath Abhyankar, Vikram Kale, and Kishor Darade also participated in the discussion.
Dr. Bhoyar stated that Balbharati was established on January 27, 1967. It is the institution responsible for publishing government-approved textbooks for classes 1 to 12, which are distributed across Maharashtra. The existing building was constructed using a load-bearing structural system. As per the structural audit report, it has been determined that a new building is necessary at the current site. Therefore, a proposal will soon be submitted to the regulatory board for approval. Once the approval is granted, work on the new building will begin promptly.
While answering additional questions about the SCERT and NCERT curricula, Dr. Bhoyar clarified that, in line with the state government’s policy, syllabi will be developed considering local needs. He also emphasized that efforts will be made to encourage maximum use of workbooks prepared by Balbharati, especially for students in rural areas.
Introducing the “Mukhyamantri Gyanpatra Yojana”, Dr. Bhoyar explained that under this initiative, used books and notebooks from across the state will be collected, reused, and turned into new notebooks and books that will be made available to students at reduced prices. He further mentioned that wherever Balbharati owns land, the government will strive to develop the necessary infrastructure at those locations.
