Pune: In a heart-wrenching incident from Pune’s Warje area, a 1.5-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a water tanker that was allegedly reversing. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, prompting swift police action and the arrest of the driver.

The deceased, identified as Adokshak Mahesh Wavale, a resident of Ganpati Matha, was rushed to a nearby hospital by the police but was declared dead on arrival.

According to officials, the tragedy took place around 7:30 pm when the driver, 22-year-old Sunny Pyare Baraskar, was reversing the tanker after delivering water to a residential society in the Ganpati Matha area.

Despite local residents reportedly shouting and urging him to stop after spotting the child behind the vehicle, Baraskar allegedly continued driving in reverse and crushed the toddler under the wheels.

Senior Police Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade confirmed that Baraskar has been booked under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The water tanker has been seized, and a medical examination of the accused has been conducted. Baraskar, originally from Bhopal, is currently residing in Pune’s Dattawadi area.

Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narale from Warje police station is leading the investigation into the case.
