Action Against Illegal Constructions Will Continue Across the City – Commissioner Shekhar Singh
Pimpri, May 17, 2025:
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has carried out a major demolition drive against 36 unauthorized bungalows built along the Indrayani River within the blue flood line in Gat No. 90 of Chikhali, under the K Zone office. The action was taken today (May 17), removing illegal constructions spread over approximately 1.8 acres, covering a built-up area of around 63,970 square feet. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh inspected the site during the operation.
This drive follows the directive from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which had ordered the removal of unauthorized constructions located within the blue flood line of the Indrayani River. Although the residents approached the Supreme Court against this decision, the apex court upheld the NGT’s order, enabling PCMC to proceed with the demolition.

Senior Officials Present:
The action was overseen by Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Deputy Commissioners Manoj Lonkar, Sitaram Bahure, Rajesh Agale, and Assistant Commissioners Nitin Deshmukh, Sanjay Khabade. Regional Officers Sheetal Wakde, Amit Pandit, Ajinkya Yele, Pooja Dudhnale, Shrikant Kolap, Kishor Nanavare, Umesh Dhakane, Mahesh Waghmode, Nana More, Executive Engineer Suryakant Mohite, Sunil Bagwani, Vijay Sonawane, Lakshmikant Kolhe, Vijay Waykar, Shivraj Wadkar, and Sunildutt Narote were also involved, along with other deputy and junior engineers.
Security and Support:
The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate provided tight security under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shivaji Pawar, Bapusaheb Bangar, Assistant Commissioner Anil Koli, Rajendra Singh Gaur, and Senior Inspector Vitthal Salunkhe.

Why the Action Was Necessary:
Concrete RCC structures within the river’s blue flood line pose serious threats during monsoon floods. To safeguard residents and the environment, the demolition was conducted jointly by the Building Permission Department, the Unauthorized Construction Control Unit, and the Demolition Squad.

* 22 Beat Inspectors
* 168 Maharashtra Security Force personnel
* 400 police officers
* 120 laborers
* 15 poclain machines
* 3 JCBs
* 2 fire engines
* 4 ambulances
* 19 videographers for documentation

Officials from the police, fire brigade, electricity distribution company, and other civic departments also participated.
