In a significant development from the Chinchwad Assembly constituency, Nana alias Vitthal Kate, a close associate of Ajit Pawar, has withdrawn from the election, ending a brief rebellion within the Mahayuti alliance. Today marked the final deadline for candidates to retract their nominations, and while Kate had initially remained firm on contesting the election, he eventually stepped aside following interventions from senior leaders.

Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister, recently met with Kate to address his concerns and encourage unity within the alliance. Mahavikas Aghadi leader Sharad Pawar also reached out to discuss Kate’s potential withdrawal. Kate confirmed this information himself, explaining that after discussions with Pawar and an official meeting with Mahayuti’s candidate, Shankar Jagtap, he decided to step down.

This withdrawal now sets up a direct showdown between Sharad Pawar faction’s Rahul Kalate and BJP’s Shankar Jagtap. Kalate, who has contested from Chinchwad Assembly three times before, faces Jagtap, a first-time candidate, creating an intriguing matchup in the constituency.
