A young couple’s evening stroll on Baner Hill turned into a nightmare when they were beaten and robbed by four assailants on Sunday. Abiniyu Chawang, 36, and his friend Chingamalai Pamei were stopped by the group, who threatened them with sharp weapons. The thieves made off with their mobile phones, earpods, and other valuables, leaving both of them shaken.

Baner Hill has seen a surge in violent crimes, with a student from Northeast India being beaten and robbed just ten days prior. The police had arrested minors and their accomplices in connection with that case.

The recent incidents have raised concerns about safety in Pune’s hill areas. Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged to allocate funds for installing intense lighting in hills and deserted areas of the city following the Bopdev Ghat incident. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has also ordered increased patrols in these areas.

The police are working to apprehend the suspects and ensure the safety of citizens in Pune’s hill areas. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The incidents have sparked fears among citizens, who demand stricter measures to prevent such crimes.
