Police Nab Suspects Within Hours; Attempted Murder Charges Filed
PUNE: A husband and wife were brutally attacked with a koyta (machete) in a road rage incident on Sinhgad Road on Friday evening. The victims, identified as Ravishankar Patale and his wife Nisha Patale, sustained injuries, with Ravishankar suffering a head wound.
Three Arrested, Two Minors Detained
Police have arrested three accused—Mohan Gore (20) of Hingane Khurd, Karan Barge (19) of Koradwasti, and Sahil Pathan (19) of Sainagar—while two minors have been detained in connection with the assault.
Attack Triggered by Objection to Public Urination
According to police, the couple was returning home to Dhayari when they stopped near the Sinhgad Road regional office. As they sat by the roadside, a group of four to five individuals arrived, and one of them began urinating in the open. Ravishankar objected, citing the presence of women in the area, which enraged the accused.
In retaliation, the group first attacked Nisha before striking Ravishankar on the head with a koyta when he tried to defend his wife. The assailants then fled the scene.
Prior Threats and Criminal Background
Police sub-inspector Suresh Jaybhai revealed that just 15 minutes before the attack, the accused had brandished sharp weapons and threatened locals in Rajiv Gandhi Vasahat, Vithalwadi, creating panic in the area.
