A resident of Dighi has fallen victim to a fraudulent stock market scheme, losing Rs 33.30 lakhs. The case, filed on October 18, 2024, at the Dighi Police Station, has prompted authorities to investigate the scam under Sections 406 and 420 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(C) of the IT Act.
According to officials from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police, the victim was deceived by an unidentified accused who convinced him to invest large sums of money into stock market trading. The accused allegedly displayed fake profits, making it appear that the victim’s investment was growing by crores of rupees daily. Over time, a total of Rs 33.30 lakhs was extracted from the victim without any real returns.
The police have registered a case and are working to track down the perpetrators. No arrests have been made so far, but authorities are optimistic about making progress in the investigation.
Cases of financial fraud involving the stock market have been rising, and the police have urged the public to be cautious when engaging in online trading or investment schemes. They also encourage citizens to verify the legitimacy of such platforms before investing.
