A shocking incident of reckless driving under the influence of alcohol has left the city of Pune reeling. On Sunday, around 11 pm, a pickup driver allegedly hit multiple vehicles, injuring five to six people, two of whom are critically injured.
The incident occurred in the Kothrud area, near Karishma Chowk and Savarkar flyover at Paud Phata. Eyewitnesses reported that the pickup driver, driving a Susat pickup, first hit two children at a signal before blowing through a red light and striking multiple vehicles, including two bikes and a car. The driver’s rampage continued, leaving a trail of destruction and injured victims in his wake.
Citizens, outraged by the driver’s actions, apprehended him and physically assaulted him before police arrived. Authorities rushed to the scene and arrested the accused driver, registering a case under relevant sections. The injured victims have been admitted to Sahyadri Hospital for treatment.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of drunk driving,” said a police official. “We urge citizens to never drive under the influence and to report any suspicious behavior.” The incident has sparked widespread outrage.
