Pune News: Free Guillain-Barré Syndrome Testing Now Available At YCM and New Thergaon Hospital Of PCMC

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Cracks Down On 7 Unauthorized RO Plants And 20 ATM Water Plants Amid GBS Outbreak
Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced that free NCV (Nerve Conduction Velocity) testing for diagnosing Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) will now be available at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCM) and the New Thergaon Hospital. A helpline will also be launched to provide information about the disease.
Suspected Cases:
Fifteen suspected cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome have been reported in areas like Pimpri, Wakad, Bhosari, Pimpri Gurav, Chikhali, and Talwade.
Water Testing:
Samples of drinking water from these areas, including wells, borewells, and water supplied by tankers, have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory in Pune for testing. Chlorine levels in the water will also be examined.
Private Hospital Directives:
Private hospitals have been instructed not to admit GBS patients if they lack immunoglobulin injections. Instead, such patients should be referred to municipal hospitals.
Ongoing Survey:
Health officials are conducting surveys in affected areas. Sixteen teams, with two teams per ward, have been deployed to inspect households as part of the effort, according to Health Officer Dr. Laxman Gophane.
