Pune, February 3, 2025: In a united stand, residents from various housing societies in Karvenagar organized a human chain protest today, urging the completion of the road from Rajaram Bridge to Ambedkar Chowk before opening the new bridge over the Mutha River. The construction of the bridge connecting Sinhagad Road’s Suncity to Karvenagar is progressing rapidly, but locals insist that the incomplete road infrastructure in their area must be addressed first.

The protest, organized by the Karvenagar United Society Forum, saw participation from numerous societies, with placards reading, “No opposition to the new bridge, but complete the old road first.” This movement had been in preparation for several days, with awareness campaigns held across societies to highlight the issue. Banners emphasizing their demands were displayed at society gates, increasing public engagement.

While the stretch from Rajaram Bridge to Dudhane Lawns on the Shivane-Kharadi DP Road has been partially constructed, land acquisition hurdles have left the road incomplete. Specific areas, including Mahalaxmi Lawns and near Vedanta Mangal Karyalaya, have unresolved land disputes, preventing the road from connecting to Mhatre Bridge and further towards Ambedkar Chowk. The incomplete road has already caused significant inconvenience, and residents fear that once the new bridge opens, traffic congestion in Karvenagar will worsen drastically.

Political leaders, social activists, and former corporators joined the protest, extending their support. During the demonstration, a memorandum of demands was handed over to Aniruddh Pawaskar, Chief of the PMC Road Department. Pawaskar assured residents of expedited efforts to resolve the land acquisition issues and complete the road.

Residents stressed that the new bridge will divert significant traffic from Sinhagad Road through Karvenagar’s DP Road to the city center and highways via Rajaram Bridge and Ambedkar Chowk. Without completing the DP Road, the narrow internal roads will face severe congestion, causing daily hardship for locals.

The protest underscored the community’s determination to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with new developments, calling on authorities to prioritize their long-standing demands before introducing additional traffic flow into the area.
