The Maharashtra Government’s Cabinet has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Pune Metro Phase 2 project, which spans 31.64 km and is estimated to cost Rs. 9,897.19 crore.

This development follows the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro or MMRCL) inviting bids for a General Consultant to assist with the project’s implementation less than two weeks ago.

The approved Pune Metro Phase 2 includes two elevated lines. Line-5, covering 25.518 km, will connect Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and Kharadi through 22 elevated stations. The Line-5 spur, covering 6.118 km, will connect Nal Stop, Warje, and Manik Bagh with 6 elevated stations.

Station Names:

Line-5: Khadakwasla, Dalvewadi, Nanded City, Dhayari Phata, Manik Baug, Hingane Chowk, Rajaram Bridge, Deshpande Udyan, Dandekar Pul, Swargate North, Seven Loves Chowk, PCB, Race Course, Fatima Nagar, Ramtekdi, Hadapsar, Magarpatta South, Magarpatta Main, Magarpatta North, Hadapsar Railway Station, Sainath Nagar, and Kharadi Chowk.

Line-5 Spur: Paud Phata, Karve Putla, Dhunkar Colony, Karve Nagar, Warje, and Daulat Nagar.

With the Cabinet’s approval, the DPR will now be forwarded to the Central Government. It will undergo review by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Ministry of Finance (MoF), and other relevant departments before the final approval.

In contrast to other metro projects, Maha-Metro handled Pune Metro’s Phase 1 Extension (Phase 1A) approvals in a phased manner. The four routes in Phase 1A, connecting Bhakti Shakti (Nigdi), Katraj, Chandni Chowk, and Wagholi, each followed separate approval processes.

It is anticipated that additional lines could be added to Phase 2’s execution plans, such as the 11.35 km Hadapsar – Loni Kalbhor and 5.57 km Hadapsar – Sasvad Road lines, which are part of the General Consultant’s scope and are awaiting approval from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
