Mumbai, March 11 – To meet the growing water demands of Pimpri-Chinchwad, MLA Shankar Jagtap has strongly advocated for reserving 760 million liters of water daily from Mulshi Dam. A high-level meeting regarding this demand was held at the state ministry under the chairmanship of Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

Key Discussions in the Meeting

The meeting was convened following a written request by MLA Shankar Jagtap. During the discussion, he emphasized the urgent need to reserve water for the rapidly expanding city. Present at the meeting were MLA Mahesh Landge, Water Resources Secretary Deepak Kapoor, Krishna Valley Development Corporation Executive Director Atul Kapole, Chief Engineer Hanumant Gunale, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, and other senior officials.

Future Water Needs Highlighted

MLA Jagtap pointed out that by 2051, Pimpri-Chinchwad would require 814 MLD of water due to population growth. Currently, the city receives 630 MLD from Pavana Dam (530 MLD), Andra Dam Barrage (80 MLD), and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (20 MLD). With a 7% annual population growth, future shortages are imminent. He urged the government to reserve 760 MLD from Mulshi Dam without delay.
