Pune: The municipal elections in Maharashtra are expected to be held in April or May, as announced by BJP state president and state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Sunday. He was speaking to the media after the BJP’s organizational workshop.

Bawankule stated that the Maharashtra government has submitted the information regarding OBC reservations to the Supreme Court through its lawyer. A decision on the matter is anticipated soon, paving the way for local self-government elections in April or May.

He added, “We are prepared to conduct elections immediately after the Supreme Court’s decision. The Mahayuti alliance, which won 237 seats in the assembly elections, will also secure victory in all municipal corporations, district councils, and panchayat samitis.”

Bawankule emphasized that the Mahayuti government is committed to launching new schemes rather than discontinuing existing ones. Sufficient budget allocations have been made for each initiative, including the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme, which will benefit eligible recipients.

He urged ineligible individuals to voluntarily withdraw from the scheme, similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for citizens to relinquish LPG subsidies.

Regarding the resignation demand for Minister Dhananjay Munde in the Beed case, Bawankule stated, “It is an internal matter of Munde, Ajit Pawar, and their NCP party, and I will not comment further.”
