Pune, January 28, 2025: The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has confirmed that public bus services to the MCA Stadium in Gahunje will not be feasible due to the narrow roads leading up to the venue. MCA President Rohit Pawar explained that although discussions were held with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) and bus companies, the road infrastructure currently prevents the safe operation of large buses.

The MCA stadium, located nearly 30 km from Pune city center, is set to host a T20I match between India and England on January 31. However, with no public transport options available, most ticket holders rely on private vehicles to reach the stadium. This influx of private cars has created major traffic congestion and inadequate parking space, with many vehicles parked on the roads or in private lots near the venue.

Pawar shared that the association had conducted surveys during the World Cup and found that the roads were too narrow to accommodate buses. He further stated that the association was in the process of widening the road to improve accessibility. “If a bus were to take a U-turn, it would block the entire traffic. That’s the issue we are facing,” said Pawar.

MCA had also considered a metro rail link between Pune and Gahunje, but no immediate plans have been finalized.

To address past issues, MCA Secretary Kamlesh Pisal assured that measures had been taken to improve facilities at the stadium. This includes ensuring a steady supply of drinking water for spectators, particularly during the evening match when temperatures are expected to be more manageable.
