Pune News: Padma Shri Murali Kant Petkar Felicitates Young Swimming Champs At Neco Sky Park
Pune, May 22, 2025: Renowned war hero and India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Murali Kant Petkar, fondly known as Chandu Champion, visited Neco Sky Park Society on May 16 to honour young achievers in swimming.
Petkar was warmly welcomed by Society Chairman Mukund Abhange, Secretary Ganesh Bombale, and senior citizen Raghunath Sale with a shawl, shriphal, and bouquet, in a heartwarming reception ceremony.
The event was organized to felicitate ten talented boys and girls from Neco Sky Park Society who won eleven medals at the Maha Swim State Championship held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune. The initiative to invite Petkar was taken by Oceanman and swimming coach Shirish Patki, a resident of the society who has been consistently training children in the society’s swimming pool.

Over fifty participants took part in this year’s summer swimming coaching camp, receiving participation certificates from Mr. Petkar. The highlight of the event was the personal interaction between the decorated veteran and the young swimmers, who were visibly inspired by his presence and words of encouragement.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chairman Mukund Abhange, expressing gratitude to all contributors and residents for their enthusiastic support.
This inspiring event was entirely organized by the residents of Neco Sky Park Society.
