Pune News: PCMC Imposes ₹85,000 In Fines On Hospital And Company For Violating Waste Management Rules
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal waste disposal, imposing a fine of ₹35,000 on a private hospital and ₹50,000 on a private company for violating the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, officials said on Friday.
The ‘C’ regional office of the PCMC penalized the private hospital located in Indrayani Nagar for disposing of biomedical waste in a public place, which is strictly prohibited by law. The fine of ₹35,000 was collected on Thursday. Meanwhile, the ‘F’ regional office fined a private company near Shelar Vasti on Dehu-Alandi Road ₹50,000 for burning waste in a public place.
PCMC Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh stated, “We are committed to keeping Pimpri-Chinchwad clean and beautiful through various initiatives. Awareness programs on solid waste management rules are conducted regularly, yet violations persist. Strict action is now being taken against those who fail to comply.”
Vijaykumar Khorate, Additional Municipal Commissioner of PCMC, emphasized the importance of adhering to waste management regulations. “It is mandatory for every citizen to follow the solid waste management rules. Those who fail to comply will face strict action. PCMC is also running various awareness programs, and we urge residents to cooperate,” he said.
PCMC Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar added that a strict campaign against waste management violations has been launched and will be intensified in the coming days. “Citizens must follow the rules and support the municipal corporation in maintaining cleanliness,” he said.
Officials noted that PCMC is actively preparing for the ‘Swachh Sarvekshan 2024’ competition and has ramped up efforts to keep the city clean. Various campaigns are being conducted to educate citizens on proper waste disposal, handling of biomedical waste, and the prevention of waste burning in public places. Despite repeated appeals, violations continue, prompting strict action against offenders.
