After multiple delays, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has finalized the contractor for the construction of its proposed cancer hospital in Thergaon. Officials confirmed on Sunday that the project has reached its final approval stage and the proposal has been submitted to the PCMC Standing Committee.
The project, in development for the past two years, aims to establish a specialized cancer treatment facility under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. However, the tender process faced repeated hurdles, receiving limited response even after three extensions.
Ultimately, only one contractor submitted a bid, prompting PCMC to proceed with awarding the contract to the sole bidder. The civic body will provide land for the project on a 30-year lease.
The proposal is in its final stage and work on the hospital will commence soon.
The hospital is expected to offer comprehensive cancer care, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgeries, and psychological counselling. It will be equipped with advanced medical infrastructure such as linear accelerators, brachytherapy units, and PET-CT scan facilities, catering to various cancers including breast, lung, prostate, and cervical cancers.
