Pune News: Penalty Action Against 60 Residents For Illegally Attaching Electric Pumps To PCMC Water Line

Pimpri, April 20, 2025: In a significant crackdown, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has penalized 60 individuals for illegally connecting electric motors/pumps directly to official municipal water supply lines. The action was taken under Rule No. 15 of the PCMC regulations. Acting on the directives of Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, special squads were formed to enforce this rule across the city.
Operations were carried out in various areas including Chinchwad, Balwantnagar, Shivanagari, Sairaj Colony, Amrutvel Colony in Rahatani, Bhaveshwari and Shri Kunj Colony in Morevasti, and parts of Sangvi and Dapodi such as Ganeshnagar, Rajaramnagar, Pavannagar, and SMS Colony.
Due to the summer season, water usage has surged, causing supply issues, especially in elevated areas. Unauthorized pump use leads to low pressure, creating hardships for other residents. During the drives, 21 pumps were seized in Chinchwad, 11 in Rahatani, 10 in Morevasti, and 18 in Sangvi-Dapodi. Illegal 1-inch connections were also disconnected.
PCMC officials have urged citizens to use water judiciously and warned of strict action against further violations.
“Citizens must avoid wastage and illegal extraction of water. Strict action will continue.” — Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC
“Unauthorized pumps obstruct supply. Such violations will be penalized.” — Ajay Suryawanshi, Joint City Engineer, Water Supply Dept., PCMC
