Pune | May 29, 2025: Legal trouble seems to be growing for the Hagawane family. A police complaint has been filed at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station against Lata Rajendra Hagawane and Shashank Rajendra Hagawane over an alleged fraud and intimidation involving a JCB machine transaction.

As per the complaint filed by Prashant Yelwande, a resident of Nigoje, Taluka Khed, he had entered into a deal in March 2022 to purchase a JCB machine from Lata and Shashank Hagawane for ₹24,00,000. He paid ₹5 lakh in advance and took possession of the machine.

However, the JCB had an outstanding loan of ₹19 lakh from IndusInd Bank. It was agreed that Yelwande would pay the monthly EMIs on behalf of the sellers by transferring ₹50,000 per month to Lata Hagawane’s bank account. Over time, he paid ₹6.7 lakh. Despite receiving the amount, the Hagawanes allegedly failed to clear the EMIs and misused the funds for personal purposes.

In August 2024, IndusInd Bank repossessed the JCB due to non-payment. Later, the Hagawanes reportedly retrieved the machine from the bank but did not return it to Yelwande.

Yelwande claims he repeatedly demanded either a refund of ₹11.7 lakh or the return of the JCB. Instead, during one such conversation, Shashank Hagawane allegedly threatened him by placing his hand on a pistol and saying, “You’ve used the machine for 14 months, don’t ask for money now or your family won’t be safe.”

As no resolution was reached despite repeated follow-ups, Yelwande has formally filed a complaint at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. “Police have initiated action, and an FIR is lodged,” said DCP Zone 3, Dr Shivaji Pawar.
