Pune News: PMC Approves ₹90 Crore Development Projects Ahead Of Election Code Of Conduct

Pune: PMC Launches Ambitious "Deep Clean" Drive, Clears 40 Tonnes Of Garbage
Pune, October 8, 2024 – With the model code of conduct for the upcoming assembly elections expected to take effect soon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has fast-tracked approvals for development projects worth ₹90 crore. In a series of back-to-back meetings, the PMC’s standing committee cleared 160 proposals to ensure key projects are not delayed during the election period.
The model code of conduct restricts new project sanctions and major public announcements during election time, though ongoing projects can continue. To avoid potential disruptions, the PMC has accelerated its approval process, with various departments pushing through proposals before the code is enforced.
Among the cleared projects are initiatives related to park maintenance, road development, and improvements to water supply and drainage systems in Pune’s merged villages. While the original agenda included just 21 proposals, an additional 139 were presented and approved simultaneously.
The standing committee convened for two consecutive meetings on Thursday and Friday, clearing several proposals that will now be sent to the General Assembly for final approval.
