Pune News: PMC Approves Beautification of Pashan, Model Colony, And Katraj Lakes
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal to beautify three key lakes—Pashan, Model Colony, and Katraj—as part of its Swachh Survekshan initiative. The plan aims to enhance these water bodies by improving their surroundings and boosting their ecological health.
PMC allocates funds annually for cleaning and removing water hyacinths from these lakes. Now, additional steps will be taken to make them more attractive and accessible to citizens. A budget of ₹41.88 lakh has been sanctioned for the Pashan and Katraj lakes, while ₹49.42 lakh will be spent on Model Colony lake. The Standing Committee approved the project during a meeting on Thursday, February 27.
The beautification will include tree plantations, concrete walkways, jogging tracks, and proper waste disposal systems. PMC has also pledged to take strict action against individuals dumping garbage in these areas. To improve water quality, measures such as sewage treatment plants and drainage filtration systems are being implemented.
Under the AMRUT scheme, the central government has also allocated funds for cleaning these lakes. Officials believe these efforts will help create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment for Pune’s residents.
Key Features of the Beautification Plan:
Aesthetic enhancements around the lakes
Water fountains for visual appeal
Seating areas with flying benches in adjacent parks
Well-maintained footpaths and painted boundary walls
Protective barriers to prevent garbage dumping
With air pollution and environmental concerns on the rise, this initiative aims to make Pune’s lakes cleaner, more scenic, and ecologically balanced.
