In a significant move, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the removal of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route on Pune-Nagar Road on 6th December night.

Qaneez Sukhrani, a Pune citizen activist, said “I have been the strong opponent of BRTS ever since it was conceptualized and I have made my views public from time to time. So, it has brought great cheer and relief to citizens who traverse the dangerous BRTS corridor on Nagar Road. It is also a mark of respect to all those who have had accidents and lost their lives all these years due to BRTS. I am very grateful to Vikas Dhakane, Additional Municipal Commissioner, PMC, who accepted my logical arguments that value of life is much more than any amount of public money spent and I am also grateful for having Gokhale Institute do the survey. As soon as the survey report came in yesterday (6th December), PMC started demolition at night time to avoid inconvenience to traffic. Vikas Dhakane and his team’s swift action is greatly appreciated.”

Sunil Tingre, MLA, Vadgaon Sheri, on his X handle tweeted, finally, the PMC has started removing the BRTS route on Nagar RRoad. He further said, it was my constant demand to the PMC to remove BRTS considering the accidents, traffic jams & loss of lives caused by BRTS on Nagar Road. Local citizens & those traveling on the Nagar Road were suffering from the traffic caused by BRTS.

For this issue, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar & PMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, along with him, had inspected the Nagar Road & pointed out many things regarding the traffic congestion and the possibility of accidents due to BRTS.
