The fine for using plastic bags ranges from Rs 5,000 for a first-time violation, Rs 10,000 for a second-time violation & Rs 25,000 for a third-time violation. If someone keeps repeating this even after 3 times, they will face criminal action.”

As per further information, the PMC has been carrying out the action based on the state government’s directives issued on March 23, 2018, to control the use of plastic and thermocol products. Restrictions were put on manufacture, usage, sale, transport, handling and storage. The main aim is to ensure that low-quality plastic is not promoted and used.

The city generates nearly 1,600 metric tonnes of garbage every day. Of the total garbage generated, nearly 250 tonnes is wet garbage, 850 tonnes is dry garbage, and 500 tonnes is mixed garbage. About 15% of the garbage generated amounts to plastic.
