Pune is witnessing a rise in violent altercations over minor disputes. In a recent incident, a gang assaulted a retired police officer in a Lohegaon society, brandishing swords and vandalizing household items. The Vimantal Police have registered a case against 13 individuals involved in the attack.

According to the police, the retired officer, who had served at various stations including Bund Garden and Chatushrungi, had settled in a bungalow within the society post-retirement. The dispute arose over a broken drainage cover on the society’s road.

One of the accused, who holds a contract for cleaning the society, alleged that the drainage cover broke when his car wheel passed over it. An argument ensued between him and the retired officer. Shortly after, the accused, along with his accomplices, forcibly entered the officer’s home, verbally abusing and pushing him. They brandished a sword to intimidate him and proceeded to vandalize furniture.
